When I was younger I believed that the opposition parties role in politics was to hold the government to account for the policies they make and suggest changes that they believe are necessary in line with their parties strategy.
Of course they want to demonstrate that they are a better option to be the next government and this could get quite intense as approaching elections.
Nowadays as I see it from the get go the opposition parties have only one objective and that is to discredit the government, to manufacture strategies and policies in direct opposition to those of the government that they would never have any hope to implement.
This form of government no longer works, we end up with a government that is forced to make poor decisions and shooting from the hip policies based on the pressure that the opposition have created through social media influencing the public. Basically setting the government up to fail and then we do it all again with the next government whoever they are.
I don't know what the answer is, we just need the parties to clean themselves up and start contributing to the success of the country whether they are in power or not, with the mostly untrustworthy politicians we have this is unlikely.
Politicians by nature have to hide facts from the public otherwise they would never get anything done, the difference now is that we no longer trust politicians to do the right thing unlike previous times where there was some belief that they were doing the right thing for the county. This may have been naive and maybe not true but at least it allowed the government to function.
I know its not a simple problem and I may have some of this wrong but I am convinced the way UK politics is at the moment it is not working.
